Helen E. Wight, Helen E. Wight, 100, of Sun River, passed away July 26, 2015 at a local care facility.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Shaw Bible Church. Burial will follow at Sun River Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Helen was born at St. Peters Hospital in Helena, Montana on May 13, 1915. Most of her childhood was spent near Craig, MT. She attended school in Mid Canyon, Hardy and Cascade. In the 4th grade, the family moved to where the Dearborn Inn is located at present. She spent her summers working for the Gary Cooper Dude Ranch, where she became acquainted with Gary Cooper, who taught Helen and her Sister, Dorothy (Dodo) how to play polo. Helen graduated from Cascade High School in 1935 and in 1937 she graduated from beauty school. She worked in Fort Benton for 2 years, after which time she bought a beauty shop in Belt and called it Helens Beauty Shop.Helen met the love of her life, Walter Wight, while working at the Falls Coffee Shop in Great Falls. They married on July 27, 1941 in Cascade, MT. They then moved to Cascade, where Walt opened a mechanic shop and Helen worked at her shop in Belt. Walter was drafted into the Army Air Corp and served 3 years in the Middle East while Helen worked and cared for their son, Walter Wally, who was born after his dad was sent overseas. After returning, the three of them spent 2 years in Cascade and then moved to Sun River. The spent the rest of their lives in Sun River raising 5 children, Wally Wight of Eureka, CA, Robert Wight of Great Falls, Roberta Smith of Conrad, MT; La Vada Clarke of Sun River, MT and Tom Wight of Great Falls. After the death of her husband, Walt, Helen moved to Great Falls and lived there until her death.Raising vegetable gardens and planting flowers, especially roses, was her favorite hobby. She loved traveling with friends and even played golf from time to time.Visiting with family and friends was a very important part of her life. She loved to reminisce about her life and things that happened while growing up and would brighten anyones day just by telling her stories and adding her quick wit.Helens love of her children, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, of God, Church and so many friends blessed her life richly.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, brother and son, Wally.A very special thank you to all the care givers at Benefis Skilled Nursing Home for all the wonderful care you gave while she was a resident there.
