Helen Warehime

Helen Corinne (Grimes) Warehime of Cascade, 91, passed away on September 3, 2012, three days short of her 92nd birthday at Peace Hospice of natural causes.A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cascade on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Helen was born September 7, 1920 to Walter Grimes and Corinne Butler Grimes.She lived her first two years on Sieben-Grimes Ranch south of Wolf Creek, then moved to Cascade in 1922.Helen grew up living on Westwood Ranch six miles east of Cascade, now owned by the Gollaher family.She graduated from Cascade High School as Salutatorian of the class of 1939.She attended Great Falls Business College.Helen married Carl C. Warehime in Townsend, MT in 1940.They moved to St. Helens, OR, where they lived until returning to Cascade in 1944.She and Carl built their home on 3rd St N in 1947.Carl passed away in 1995.Her various jobs included cooking for the Cascade schools lunch program, clerking at the post office and the B&Y Store (Now Toms Market).She was the Wedsworth Memorial Librarian for 16 years, retiring in 1982.Helen was a member of the Cascade Study Commission for local government in 1984, a member of the Chesnut Valley Circle and The United Methodist Church in Cascade.She was an active member of the committee that researched and collated the Cascade area history book, Mountain and Meadows in 1970. She wrote a column for Cascade Courier for many years; went on a trip to Washington DC National 4H Camp in June of 1940, where she met Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1936, she attended in Chicago the National 4H Congress.She enjoyed her yard and garden, cooking and her family. She also enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle at the Senior Citizen Center.Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra Runkel of Helena; sons John (Val) Warehime of Potomac, MT, Walt (Rosie) Warehime of Waitsburg, WA and Rob (Patty) Warehime of Great Falls; her sister, Marjorie Grimes Webb of Nampa, ID; brother Thomas Grimes of Cascade; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her sister, Alice Grimes Cobb; and Grandson Randy Runkel.Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church of Cascade, PO Box 25, Cascade, MT 59421, Senior Citizen Center of Cascade, #2 Front St, Cascade, MT 59421 or Cascade Library, PO Box 526, Cascade, MT 59421.Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.schniderfuneral.com.
