Harold "Hal" Webb

February 24, 1929 — October 23, 2021

Harold (Hal) Webb passed away October 23, 2021, at the age of 92. He was born February 24, 1929, to Harold Sr. and Florence Webb. He was a GFHS alumnus and worked at Malmstrom Air Force Base for 28 years as Chief of Recreation Services. He raised his family in Great Falls and enjoyed over 30 years of retirement in the Electric City. Hal met his dancing partner for life, Donna Elaine Webb, while attending graduate school at the University of Montana. They were married 60 years prior to her passing in 2015. When they were newlyweds in 1954, they moved to Germany with Hal’s lifelong friend, Ken Campbell and his wife, Sylvia. They served as special investigators for a refugee screening team. Hal and Donna spent four years living in Germany and touring Europe before returning to Great Falls. Hal was involved in athletics his entire life. He played basketball, football, track and baseball in high school. He earned athletic scholarships to play both football and basketball at Ventura California Junior College, and then went on to play basketball and graduate from Oregon. He served as the Chief of Officials and Coaches during his time in Europe. Perhaps his time in that position led to him being a college and high school referee for over 20 years in Montana. Hal was honored when he was elected to the Montana Officials Hall of Fame in 1985. His passion for athletics even continued in retirement when he coached football and basketball for 12 years at East Middle School. He loved golf, despite being left-handed and believing course architects don’t take left-handers into consideration, and he still managed to have three holes-in-one in his lifetime. Hal enlisted with the Army in 1952 serving for two years. He was involved in the community and found himself being chairperson of various endeavors. He was particularly proud of Multi-Sports for which he was one of the original founders. Numerous volunteers and private funding were responsible for the complex you see today. After retiring, he became actively involved in planning and organizing GFHS class reunions and luncheons. He bragged about his 70th year reunion and commemorated the event with a photo that’s on display at the City Bar. Special thanks go to Alanna Loftus and her family for taking wonderful care of Hal and Donna over the past ten years. “There are friends, there is family and then there are friends that become family.” Preceding Hal in death was his father, Harold; mother, Florence; wife, Donna; a nd sister, Louise (Don) Kenny. Survivors include his children, Mark (Melissa) Webb, Robin (Dennis) Nisbet, Tim (Sandy) Webb, and Leah Ann (Ray) Charles; grandchildren, Chelsea Webb, Mackenzie Webb, Cory Green, Chad Green, Jami Wright, Chris Irwin, Tyler Webb, Chad Irwin, Brittney Webb, Web Charles, and Rylan Charles; and 8 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home. A Catholic mass will be at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, with a reception following. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
