Gunder Curly Anderson, 82, of Choteau, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 after a brief battle with cancerCurly was born on July 25th 1933, in Great Falls Montana to Grant and Allie Anderson. He grew up on the family farm outside of Cascade where he attended all 12 years of school. After graduation he spent a short time at Bozeman attending college and in 1952 joined the Navy. He served a tour of duty in Korea and then came back and finished his time in the Navy in San Diego.In the fall of 1952, he married Patricia Dunning and after he was discharged in March of 1956 they returned to Cascade to farm and ranch and raise their four daughters. Pat and Curly were divorced in 1969 and he then married Carol Coryell. They had one daughter together and Carols children from a previous marriage also came to live at the ranch. Carol and Curly sold the ranch and moved to Augusta, Montana where they owned a grocery store and Curly did carpenter work. During the early 80s they moved to Dillon Montana and shortly after their move they separated and were later divorced. Curly moved back to Augusta and in 1988 married his third wife, Lynn. They returned to Dillon and then relocated to Billings for Lynns work.During those years they owned a store and rental houses in Dillon and Curly got a job working at the Big Hole Battlefield giving tours of the battlefield and campfire talks. He moved to Choteau after his marriage to Lynn ended in 2006.Curly loved working in his shop, golfing, studying history, playing his saxophone and being in the hills. He guided for many years in the Bob Marshall when he was younger and later enjoyed hiking in Glacier and camping in the sheep herder wagon he built. He was an avid fan of the Choteau High School volleyball and basketball teams.He is survived by sister Joy Davis; his children Robin (John) Tooke, Melody (Ernie) Berg, Dawn (Richard) Farist, Crystal (Scott) Grady, Shonie Anderson; and Carols daughter Nanette (Rick) Cummings.Curly was preceded in death by his parents.Curly requested that he did not have a funeral so instead there will be a gathering for friends and family to celebrate his life at 2p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Buckhorn Bar in Augusta. Memorials are suggested to the History Museum in Augusta and the Choteau High School Volley Ball team.
