Gregory J. Deffé, 91, of Great Falls, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017 at a local care facility. A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Gregory, a retired local businessman, was born in Hankinson, North Dakota on September 3, 1926, seventh child to Anna (Wolfe) and Frank Deffé. His family moved to a farm near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota when he was 10 days old. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. He served in the United States Army for 2 years. He married Joan Erb in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on November 26, 1953. They lived in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Polson, Montana before going into the Howard’s Pizza business with his brother-in-law, H. Keith Erb. He retired from Howard’s Pizza in December of 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Elizabeth Cummings, Catherine Johnson, and M. Winifred O.S.B; and two infant brothers and brother Edward Deffé. Survivors include wife Joan of Great Falls, MT; sons Steven (Mary Kim) Deffé of Ketchum, ID, Mark (Martha) Deffé and Gregory P. “Chip” Deffé both of Hailey, ID, and Douglas (Katy) Deffé of Great Falls, MT; 7 grandchildren, Madison, Drew, Anne Marie, Chloe and Myles Deffé and Ashley and Sabrina Betzel; and many nieces and nephews.
