Glen E. Sanders

September 24, 1932 — May 12, 2016

Glen E. Sanders, aka Skinhead, Brute, and Papa Baseball, 83, of Great Falls, passed away at Peace Hospice on May 12, 2016.Glen was born on September 24, 1932 to Roy and Iva (Smith) Sanders in Aberdeen, SD. He grew up on a ranch near Conde, SD until he was 16. His family then relocated to a ranch on the Bootlegger Trail north of Dutton. Glen finished high school in Centerville. He served in the US Air Force before being called back home to help his family with the ranch. Glen married Donna Suek in Dutton on April 8, 1954. He worked at the Anaconda Company Smelter in Black Eagle for 28 years until it shut down in 1980. During strikes at the smelter, he would work on farms in the Dutton area. He then was employed at the Holiday Village Mall for a short time before starting his job with the Great Falls "public" Schools, where he worked at CMR High School before retiring in 1994.He had a cabin on the Missouri River at Dearborn, and later a home on Holter Lake. He and Donna were Snowbirds for eight years, traveling to Bullhead City, AZ during the winters.Glen enjoyed most sports, particularly baseball, having been a catcher for various baseball teams as a young man. He could heckle the umpire like no other! He also enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, hunting, camping, country music and singing.Glen was a kind and caring man who loved his family and friends with an unconditional and non-judgmental love that cannot even be described. He was an extremely strong man who endured years of suffering with a tough, enduring spirit all the while keeping his sense of humor. Everyone who knew him will remember his wonderful sense of humor forever. Oh, the stories he could tell of his younger days! His positive attitude and wisdom toward life was beyond what any of us have ever known, but hope to emulate as part of his legacy.Glen and Donna had four children, Roy Sanders, Colleen (Tom) Broeker, Charlene (Rick) Sanders and Crystal (Steve) Johnson. His grandchildren are Jennifer Sanders, Jacque (Brett) Cope, Roy Broeker, Nic (Elicia) Johnson and Ryan (Ariel) Johnson. His great-grandchildren are Chauncey Sanders, Cody and Casey Cope and Micaiah, Adriel and Eloise Johnson.Glen loved dogs, especially his little Sadie, who he liked to call His little skunk. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Roy; parents; and seven brothers and sisters, Beryl, Ralph, Fred, Velma, Eunice, Doris and Edith.Glen is survived by his wife, Donna who lovingly cared for him during his last few years; daughters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his twin brother, Gene. His family is being comforted by the thought of him and his beloved son, Roy, fly fishing in Heaven with Jesus.A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow.Donations in Glens memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
