Genevieve "Gen" Safransky

Genevieve E. Gen Safransky, 96, of Great Falls, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, of natural causes at a local care facility.Genevieve was born on August 6, 1920, the only child of Peter Antonich and Marie (Karlovich) Antonich, in the Croatian - Italian community of Black Eagle, Montana. She became an accomplished pianist as a child, and while still in high school, she entertained offers to become a concert pianist. Genevieve graduated from high school in 1938, and she entered nursing school shortly thereafter. After graduating from nurse's training in Missoula, Montana, and becoming a registered nurse, she married Raymond Janetski in 1944. They had two children, Barry Janetski and Penny (Janetski) Jacobson. Genevieve and Raymond later divorced.In 1955, Genevieve married the love of her life, Lester A. Safransky, and together they had one child, a son Daniel.She had a productive and rewarding career as a registered nurse spending her first twenty years working in local hospitals. She spent the last nineteen years of her career as a "public" health nurse with the City/County Health Department before retiring in 1982. She was known for always maintaining the highest degree of professionalism, integrity and commitment.Genevieve and Lester enjoyed their retirement years at home in Great Falls and at their second home on the shore of Holter Lake until his death in 2008. Her most cherished memories involved spending summers at the lake with her grandchildren, family and friends. After Lester's death, failing health prevented her from spending any more time at the lake, but she talked about the memories constantly.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester, her son Barry and her daughter Penny.She is survived by her son Daniel, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.Cremation has taken place at Schnider Funeral Home. No services are planned.
