Evelyn O. (Morse) Brown

Evelyn O. (Morse) Brown, 81, after running the race and fighting the good fight, peacefully surrendered into the arms of Jesus, on September 26, 2021. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Chapel, with a reception following at Schnider Funeral Home located at 1510 13th Street South, Great Falls, MT. Evelyn, the youngest of nine, was born to Robert Preston and Bertha (Thedford) Morse on September 14, 1940, in Hazelhurst, MS. She was an accomplished athlete, lettering in basketball and track before graduating from Hazelhurst High School. Following high school, she married Rufus Brown, Jr. They had five children and traveled to various states and Europe with the military before settling in Great Falls. They later divorced. Evelyn began her working career as a switchboard operator for the Bell Telephone Company. She also worked as a seamstress in a factory, a custodian and then a cook at Malmstrom AFB Bowling Alley before enrolling in nursing school. She loved being a nurse and serving others on the orthopedic and surgical floors at Deaconess/Benefis for 32 years. Upon retiring, she continued serving as a volunteer at Peace Hospice. She is survived by her sister, Myrtle (Lucille) Morse Curtis Clark; five children, John (Crystal) Brown of Billings, MT, Deanne Prideaux of Great Falls, MT, Pamela (Patrick) Golemme of Middleburg, FL, Terry (Annie) Brown of Kennewick, WA, and Kimberly (Dee) Chapel of Belt, MT; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Welcoming her into her eternal home were her parents; 2 sisters; 5 brothers; grandson, Kess Collins; and son-in-law, Gary Prideaux. Evelyn was a strong, Godly woman who loved southern fried chicken, QVC, and Mac Davis! She will be missed by all she impacted with her heart of compassion and infectious smile. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Benefis Peace Hospice at 2600 15th Avenue South, Great Falls, MT.
