Elizabeth (Swan) Shine, 94, a registered nurse of Great Falls, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Peace Hospice of natural causes.A funeral liturgy will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.Burial of ashes will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Betty was born on April 19, 1918 in Newlands, Scotland.In 1927, Betty and her family moved to Glendive, Montana where she attended high school.Not long after, they moved to Colstrip, where her father worked on the railroad.In 1941, Betty married John Shine of Miles City, where she also attended the Holy Rosary School of Nursing and graduated with an RN degree.Eventually, Betty, John and their children settled in Great Falls, where she worked for the Columbus Hospital for almost 20 years and John worked for the post office.She became widowed after John passed away on April 22, 1992.Betty was a loving mother to four children, a grandmother to nine grandchildren, a great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren and an aunt to many nieces and nephews.She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, knitting, watching Jeopardy, watching sports, reading and spending time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Vinton and Mary Ann Maxwell, both of Great Falls; sons William Shine of Great Falls and Michael Shine of Portland; a sister, Frances Lewis of Kalispell; a brother, Gabriel Swan of Great Falls; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shine; brothers Richard Swan and Archie Swan; and a sister, Marion Willett.The family suggests memorials in Elizabeths name to Special Olympics, Hornets Adult Team, 1410 Ave B NW, Great Falls, MT 59404.Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.schniderfuneralhome.com.
