Elaine M Tweet

The music stopped today but continues in our hearts as we say goodbye to our mother, Elaine Jung Tweet, age 92 who passed away on November 25, 2018 in Great Falls, MT. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Mausoleum at 1410 13th St. South, Great Falls, MT. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Schnider Funeral Home. Elaine Marie Jung was born in Detroit Michigan on July 24, 1926. Elaine moved with her family to Minneapolis then on to Osakis, Minnesota to make their living on a farm. She attended school in Osakis and graduated from high school in 1944. She played the violin in both the school orchestra and the Douglas County orchestra and played the clarinet in the school band and quartet. Elaine was the oldest of seven brothers and two sisters. After high school, she moved to Evansville, Indiana to work during the war effort making parts for the P-47 fighter planes.She also continued to play in a dance band. After the war, she moved back to Minnesota where she worked in Minneapolis. Elaine married Edwin Tweet on August 24, 1947 in Brainard, Minnesota. They had two sons, David in 1952 and Rodney in 1955. The family moved from Minnesota to Montana in 1953, living first in Conrad and then moving to Power in 1962. Though she only had two living children, many more claimed her as “mom” as Elaine and Ed opened their home to help raise 11 other children besides their own two boys. Elaine was a hard working woman who held many different jobs throughout her life.She had been a waitress, worked road construction as a flagger, worked at the Smoot Honey Company in Power, cleaned houses, cared for elderly neighbors and was a railroad cook for crews on the railroad lines. She retired in 1986 and moved from Power to Great Falls. After she retired, she did some traveling with her most enjoyable trips being to Hawaii and Australia. In retirement, she also volunteered as a RSVP member playing her accordion at many nursing and retirement homes and at the Moose, Eagle, and Elk Clubs. She brought her joy of music to others and she loved to entertain. A special thanks to her music family. Elaine belonged to the Accordion Players Association and also was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, and VWF auxiliary in Conrad. Elaine is survived by two sons and their wives David and Beckey Tweet of Lincoln and Rodney and Mary Lou Tweet of Fort Benton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Johnstone of Forsyth, Jeremy (Krystal) Tweet of Great Falls, Logan Tweet of Helena, and Ethan Tweet of Fort Benton; and great-grandchildren, Paul Johnstone, Cade Johnstone, Ashyr Tweet, Eastyn Tweet and Grady Tweet; sisterMary Ann Jung-Butterfield (George Butterfield) of Seattle, WA and brothers Edward (Lyla) Jung of Conrad, Don Jung of Great Falls, Paul (Sally) Jung of Port Angeles, WA, and Gary Jung of Sequim, WA; and special friend Frank Boyle of Power, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed in 1979, an infant daughter, her parents Adam and Kathryn Jung, a sister Audrey Crumpacker and brothers Richard Jung and Kevin Jung, twin great grandsons Kellyn and Kamdyn Tweet, and special friend John Krause. A special thank you to The Lodge and The Rainbow Senior Living for providing Mom with a safe home for the past six years and also to Dr. Libby Lake, Dr. Liz O’Connor and Heidi Fritz, FNP and for your medical care of our mother. To recognize Elaine’s love of music, memorials are suggested to the donor’s local high school music department. Mom’s life has ended but we will hold her memories and let her music play on deep in our hearts as we think of her and the love she gave to all of us.
