Edward Leo Myers Iii, Esq.

April 4, 1962 — June 9, 2018

Edward Leo Myers III, Esq. died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Murrieta, from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old. A memorial service will be Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel with a reception at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for family and friends, also on Thursday. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Ed Myers wanted to live and live he did. While born with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bones disease), Ed never let his illness prevent him from doing the things he loved: studying history, traveling, advocating for those with disabilities, and living independently. Ed is the ninth child of Dr. Edward Leo Myers II DVM (deceased) and Jeanne M. (Hallesy) (Lane) Myers (deceased), both of Great Falls. Ed was unmarried and had no children. Ed is survived by eight siblings, John, Mike, Cathy Bailey, Teresa Fleege, Bob, Tim, Tom, and Jim. He was born in Great Falls, Montana and attended school in Great Falls, Peerless, Cascade, Turner, and graduated high school at Charles M. Russell in Great Falls. He graduated with degrees in International Relations and History with Honors and Law from the University of Montana. He was licensed to practice law in both, MT and AZ, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Federal District Courts in MT and AZ. After law school, Ed clerked for the Montana Supreme Court in Helena and worked for Disability Rights of Montana before moving to Tempe, AZ where his work for the AZ Center for Disability Law and AZ Technology Access Program in advocating for the disadvantaged and disabled earned him several awards including the prestigious Hon. John R. Stitch Disability Achievement Award from the AZ State Bar. Besides advocating as an attorney, Ed also taught Disability Law as an Adjunct Professor at Northern Arizona University while also authoring several journal articles on topics related to Disability Law. Ed was appointed to several state advisory boards in MT and AZ. Throughout his entire life, Ed was very deeply committed to disability civil rights. Ed had many friends, and will surely be missed by all, but his achievements, legacy, humor, and personality will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, Ed would appreciate donations to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc), as their help enabled him to have a meaningful and impactful life and he wishes the same for other children who may be handicapped.
