Duane "Bol" Bolender

August 17, 1946 — July 25, 2022

On July 25, we lost our beloved husband and father, Duane “Bol” Bolender after a long illness. A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel.

Bol was born on August 17, 1946, to Ralph and Geneva Bolender in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Bol had two brothers, Roger and Denny, and two half-brothers. His sister, Pam, passed away at the age of twelve.

His parents passed away when Bol was a teenager leaving him and his siblings to live with assorted relatives. Bol lived with his grandmother, Ida until he was called up for service with the Marines from 1966 until 1969 when he was released from active duty. He earned a National Defense Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, and a Good Conduct Medal for his service.

Bol was discharged from the service in Hawaii. He met a girl there who talked him into joining her in Great Falls, MT. It was there where he met Lynette when she was 17 and he was 24. They would have celebrated their 52 nd wedding anniversary on November 28 th . They were blessed with two beautiful children, Heather and Josh. His kids meant the world to him.

Bol and Lynette have made many great friends over the years, most of whom are still friends today.

Some of his great loves were bowling, stock car racing, and then getting his son into hockey which became another family for him. Let us not forget his love for the Dodgers. He first got hooked on them as a kid before having TV and while listening to them on the radio. Heaven forbid if Lynette made plans for them when there was a game on!

He was blessed with his first grandchild, Ryder, and followed by granddaughter, Teaghan. A few years later, Mackenzie arrived and several years later, Caleb. Bol loved and spoiled his grandkids dearly. They went with him and Lynette on many trips around the U. S. This gave him great joy to take them along.

Bol worked as an auto body man, even having his own shop at one time. He then went to work at MAFB Civil Service, again as an auto body man. He retired in December of 2012.

After retirement, Bol and Lynette went on a cruise to Alaska with good friends, the Klettes. He thought this was a great adventure and looked forward to doing it again. Unfortunately, ill health got in his way.

Bol was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pam; grandmother, Ida; uncle, Don; aunt, Jean who was his mother’s twin; sister-in-law, Kathy; and in-laws, Leonard and Myrtle Storhaug.

He is survived by his wife, Lynette; children, Heather (Dave) Anderson and Josh (Courtney) Bolender; grandchildren, Ryder and Teaghan Anderson, and Mackenzie and Caleb Bolender; brothers, Roger and Denny and their children; sister-in-law, Laurie (Bill) Mounce and their children; and last of all, but not least, his fur babies, Tucker, Emmy, and Riley (the joys of his life).

Bol was a very kind, funny, and smart man who will be missed by many. There isn’t enough space to list all the reasons why his life was important to so many.
