On October 6, 2018, Fred went home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born May 14, 1928 in Great Falls to Frank and Matilda Sherer. His father was proprietor of North Side Shoe Repair and his mother was a homemaker. He was the youngest of four children. His early years were spent helping his father in the shoe shop during WWII. When he was not helping his father he was hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. It became a passion he would later pass to his own children. After graduation from Great Falls High School in 1946, Fred went to work for the Anaconda Company at the Smelter. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and proudly served his country for 4 years. While on leave in 1952, he met Miss Anna Wahl, a young country girl pursuing a nursing degree at the Deaconess Hospital. Miss A. Wahl, as her friends knew her and the shoemaker’s son continued a long distance romance during his service in Korea. They married shortly after his return in 1954. Fred attended the College of Great Falls and in 1958, was accepted into the Marquette School of Dentistry. With his wife and two children in tow they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Anna continued to work as an RN until Fred graduated from dental school. Their love for Montana motivated them to move their family of four, soon to be five back to Great Falls to open a dental practice in 1962. They completed their family in 1964. Fred practiced dentistry in Great Falls until his retirement in 2010. Fred delighted in sharing and giving to others. He sponsored Thanksgiving dinner at the Rescue Mission for many years and often provided dental services for those in need. His generosity extended beyond holidays, and he provided food for hundreds of needy people in the Great Falls area throughout the years. He is remembered by his family for his unsurpassed sense of humor, generosity and sportsmanship. Fred was preceded in death by his mother, his father, 2 sisters a brother and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna; daughters Connie Sherer of Denton and Judy Masterson of Portland OR; sons Ronald (Cindy) Sherer of Stanford and Dr. Robert (Rennie) Sherer of Great Falls; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
