Douglas Michael Sloan

February 24, 1962 — April 8, 2018

Douglas Michael Sloan went to be with the Lord, his savior April 7, 2018. His mother, who he adored, was with him to his end and he was fortunate that family and friends all had time to say goodbye before his final journey. A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 200 44th St S. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Doug was born on February 24, 1962 to Philip and Jean Sloan in Lewistown and lived his entire life in Great Falls. After graduation, Doug joined the Army, and as an expert marksman won many marksman competitions and was proud to be a driver of the Bradley tank. Successfully serving our country, Doug worked the majority of his adult life in construction, most of which was with Sletten Construction Company on the bridge crews. Doug enjoyed the comradary of the travel and made new friends wherever he went. A loving son, fun uncle and friend, Doug enjoyed many of the outdoor activities this great state has to offer. He loved hunting, casting a line fishing, snowmobiling, or ATV cruising, but whatever it was it also involved storytelling and usually a prank or two. He often commented on people yakking too much, but he was one of the worst offenders. We all knew Doug was a collector of strange things and his latest passion in life was solar lights. His residence was lit up by all kinds of lights, in all kinds of colors, and when the holidays were about so were more lights! Doug was married briefly, but from another relationship he was blessed with a stepdaughter Shelby Beck. Throughout his life Doug always made time for Shelby and her for him. As a family we are thankful for that relationship and know she brought joy and happiness into his life. Doug had five nieces and one nephew. He always remembered them on their birthdays and holidays. One of his nieces, Kati, shared a kindred spirit with Doug and she too made special time for Doug and vice versa. He was the secret keeper for her, and they helped each other through many trying times and had a whole lot of fun times too! Doug was preceded in death by his dad, Philip and niece Josi. He is survived by his mother, Jean; sisters Debra and Renata all of Great Falls, nieces Theresa of New York, Kati of Billings, Kalli of Alaska, and Cassidy of Oregon; nephew Grant of Great Falls; great-nieces; great-nephews; many aunts and uncles scattered throughout the United States; and a whole lot of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Montana Veterans Program, P.O. Box 2866, Great Falls, MT 59403 or a charity of donor’s choice.
