Douglas Charles Dower, 88, of Great Falls, passed away December 20, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Calvary Chapel (101 44th St. S.) in Great Falls. Doug was born January 13, 1931, in Butte, Montana.He completed machinist training in 1954 after he returned from serving as a US Marine in Korea.He married Alyce “Sunny” Polish in 1956.While courting Sunny they built a cabin in Wise River, Montana, together using a two-man saw to cut the trees.Doug and Sunny have four children: Dan Dower, Jayne Lux, Dave Dower, and Nellie Anselmi. Doug and his family moved to Great Falls in 1962 where he worked as a machinist.He began working for Malmstrom AFB in 1968. Doug’s hobbies included building machinery, constructing houses, traveling, reading nonfiction and poetry, camping, and hiking.One of Doug’s noteworthy creations was named “Sputnik”, a custom-bodied jeep built with ¼ inch steel plate.The kids and grandkids all enjoyed custom go-carts and scooters built by Doug. In 2008, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sunny, to whom he was married for 52 years. He married Linda Martin in 2011.Doug and Linda adopted Destiny Alexander-Dower in 2015.He is survived by his wife; five children; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Doug would like you all to live by his favorite saying, “As long as we’re having fun…”
