Dorothy June Hollern

June 29, 1927 — September 6, 2018

Have you noticed how things are a little better out there? Colors are brighter, odors more pleasant and sounds are truly richer? It’s because our mother has thrown off her mortal coil and is once again in the arms of the love of her life, our father, Delroy. Yin is back with Yang and as a result, the universe is more balanced. Our mother, Dorothy passed away in the early hours of September 6th surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old at the time of her death. As a friend of ours would say “That’s a pretty darn good shift”. Mom lived a rich, full, unselfish life. She instilled in us, her four children, a moral ethic, the heart of which was the virtue of tolerance. Prejudice of any kind simply does not exist in our family. She was a friend to us and to all our friends as well. The house she lived in for 64 years until the time of her death, was a second home to many. You could always count on a hot meal, a cold beer, and a warm heart at the Hollern house. Mom made mountains of popcorn for Little League when we were young, sewed prom dresses and suits for us and our friends, made outfits for her grandchildren when they were young, played beer pong with them as adults, and took pride and doted on their children. She was active to the end, riding a jet ski at Holland Lake just last year. She was blessed with good health, other than a small bout with cancer. She didn’t suffer the loss of her mental facilities other than an occasional selective memory which none of us could confirm. She was feisty and sassy to the end. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We are sure she has already met up with her Savior-lo these many years she has called out to Him in her inimitable way “Gheezzus Christ”. Mom is survived by her legacy-her family. Kathy Bakkenist (daughter), Mike (son) and CarolHollern, Bob (son) and Pauline Hollern, Patti (daughter) and Ken Curry; grandchildren Casey (Taylor)Shoop, Jordan(Trista) Hollern, Erin (Tom Wells), Cory(Lindsey) Hollern, Adam (Sara) Curry, and Mallory(Gus-Gus) Curry; and elevenGreat Grandchildren. She is also survived by an immense community of people that lovingly called her mom or simply, Dot. Dorothy was preceded in death by her late, great husband, Delroy Hollern as well as herson-in-law, Neil Bakkenist (Kathy). Respecting her wishes, mom has been cremated. The family is hosting a memorial, a celebration of Dorothy’s life, at Schnider Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018. Please join us as we share food and fond memories of a woman who was deeply loved by so many. Memorials are preferred to Benefis Peace Hospice
