Doris Mcdunn

April 20, 1934 — April 20, 2016

Surrounded by her family and her beloved husband of 63 years, Doris peacefully went to the Lord on April 20, 2016 in her home. She left on her birthday, the same date she was born 82 years ago.On April 20, 1934, Doris greeted the world on the Diacon farm in Loma, Montana, where she grew up with her family. Born to Lois and Walter Diacon, Doris was one of five children. She attended a country school in a one room school house. Doris actively participated in 4-H, learning about cattle and sewing, and helped around her family farm with many chores. In 1950, at the age of 16, she graduated from the Ursuline Academy in Great Falls, Montana, where she excelled academically and became an accomplished violinist. In the fall of 1950, Doris met Eddy McDunn. They married on August 18, 1952, and raised a large family of five sons and six daughters in Great Falls. Doris was a devoted homemaker and farm wife. Her hobbies included praying, reading, gardening, knitting, sewing, and traveling to visit friends and relatives. She developed a great love for music and played the piano as well as the violin. She passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren, teaching several of them to play the piano and violin.Upon retirement, she and Ed fulfilled their lifelong dream and moved into a house on the Missouri River near Cascade, MT in 1995. They enjoyed watching all the wildlife at the River House and seeing how much fun all their children and grandchildren had catching fish, relaxing and floating the river. As a devout Christian, Doris planned to become a nun, but Ed captured her heart instead. Extremely kindhearted, Doris could always find good in everyone and delighted in spending time with her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Astoundingly, she has 108 descendants! She loved hosting the holidays at her home. Doris taught us all how to take care of one another and was an incredible inspiration to anyone who ever met her. People were her real passion, whether by phone or hand written letter, Doris never missed an anniversary or birthday. She was the epitome of WWJD!! You could just ask yourself, What Would Doris Do!Doris is survived by her husband, Ed McDunn of Great Falls; five daughters, Patsy Judd of Helena, Barb (Terry) Fifield of Maple Valley, WA, Georgia (Ken) Miller of Great Falls, Colleen Durand of Lakewood, WA, and Linda (Eldon) Engen of Casper, WY; three sons, Tom (Camille) McDunn of Butte, Dan (Melissa) McDunn and Steve (Lisa) McDunn both of Great Falls; daughter-in-law Debbie McDunn of Great Falls; brothers Larry Diacon of Loma and Leroy Diacon of Great Falls.
