Doris Arlene Anderson, of Cascade, 84, died Monday, December 17, 2018. She was born September 17, 1934 in Sand Point, Idaho to Goldie and Donald Harrington. She had a sister and a brother, Emily and Eddy McMurtry, and was raised in Polson, MT. Doris attended Northern Montana College in Havre, where she earned an associate’s degree in education and met the love of her life, Glen Arnold Anderson from Geraldine, MT. On June 12, 1955 they married, bought a small starter farm near Geraldine (the Hansmeyer place) and set about making a family and a life for themselves. Life was hard for young farmers in those days and Glen often said they couldn’t have done it without the love, support and hard work of Doris. They both worked tirelessly to get on their feet and make it in the world. Within a few years they were able to step up and purchase another farm (the Craig place) 7 miles West of Geraldine, where they lived for over 40 years farming and raising their family. Doris and Glen were married for 63 years and raised 4 sons; Grant, Gregory, Gym and Gary. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of boundless energy with a devout religious faith and a strong sense of community. She worked tirelessly to provide a safe, secure and healthy environment for her family in a home that always seemed to hold the aroma of freshly baked bread, cookies or cinnamon rolls. Doris and Glen retired in the 80’s, moving to a beautiful property on the Missouri River just South of Cascade. There they built their dream home and enjoyed their golden years traveling, floating the river, boating on Holter Lake and fishing. Doris was a successful artist; participating regularly in the C. M. Russell Art Auction for many years. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and many other community groups including an art club and garden club to name a few. She especially enjoyed a good game of pinochle and getting together with friends and family. Doris is survived by her loving husband, Glen Anderson of Great Falls, MT; her 4 sons, Grant Anderson of Baltimore, MD, Gregory Anderson (Susan) of Coto de Caza, CA, Gym Anderson (Debbie) of Cascade, MT, and Gary Anderson of Great Falls, MT; and one grandson, Logan Anderson of Coto de Caza, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and siblings. She was an amazing woman and will be missed intensely. A memorial service will be held for friends and family at the Cascade Methodist Church, 303 Central Avenue West, Cascade, MT at 2:00 p.m. on January 5, 2019. Cremation has taken place and arrangements are under the care of Schnider Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.SchniderFuneralHome.com. Memorials can be made in Doris’ name to Dearborn Garden Club, Box 263, Cascade, MT 59421 or to a charity of your choice.
