Doreen May Vaskey, 87 of Billings, MT, formerly of Raynesford, MT passed away February 10, 2017 from natural causes at her home.Doreen was born May 25, 1929 to Wilhelm and Mary Laura Hedin in Hannah, Alberta Canada. They moved to Minnesota in 1941 while her father worked the family farm. They moved in 1942 to the Cora Creek area by Belt/Raynesford. Doreen graduated from Great Falls High School in 1947.She met Bill Vaskey in 1949 and they were married that same year. They moved to the family farm in 1955 where they raised 3 children, Jim Duffy, Mary and Tom. Bill and Doreen were married for 41 years before Bill passed away in 1990.Doreen worked for 8 years at Montgomery Ward, had a gift shop in Raynesford and worked the family farm for 53 years. She also was active in the St. Mary's Altar Society in Raynesford and volunteered at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center for several years.She enjoyed camping, boating, bowling, golfing, skiing, and spending time with her friends and family. One of the highlights of her life was visiting with old friends at her high school class reunions. Doreen attended all of them and was very much looking forward to her 70th class reunion this year. The sparkle in her eyes and her very quick wit will be remembered by everyone!She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Bill.Doreen is survived by her brother, William Hedin of Colorado; sisters Joyce Brost and Karen Chantemerle of Arizona; children Jim Duffy Vaskey (AJ), of Billings, MT, Mary (Mike) Kirby of Stanford, MT, and Tom (Kim) Vaskey of Belgrade, MT; grandchildren Leslie (Brent) Atkinson, Casey (Julie) Vaskey, Cole (Ally) Vaskey, Brandon (Amber) Vaskey, Kellen Kirby, Heather Kirby, Kevin (Kate) Kirby, Triston Vaskey, and Jessica (Jerin) Stainer; great-grandchildren Carlee, Lia, Payton, Leighla, Everly, Caden, Savannah, Ryen, Faith, Presley, and Beckett.A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. with a vigil service following at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel, Great Falls. Funeral liturgy will be held on Friday February 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Great Falls.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Shodair Children's Hospital, 840 Helena Ave., Helena, MT 59601 in memory of Doreen Vaskey.
