Donald Wayne Hungerford passed away June 22, 2021, of a heart attack. Don was born to Donald G. and Dorothy M. Hungerford on December 4, 1946, in Glasgow, Montana. He was the second oldest of three children. Growing up and graduating in Rapelje Montana. He went to college at Eastern in Billings MT to earn his master’s degree in teaching, counseling, biology, and physical science. In February 1969 he met and married Lorraine “Lori” Novotny and they came to Great Falls that same month and year and began his teaching career. He coached basketball to elementary and middle school boys and girls. Always keeping current in flying, he was a pilot, flight instructor, and crop duster, owning his own crop-dusting plane while teaching school. During that time Don became interested in model RC flying, building and flying RC planes. One daughter was fortunate to call him “Dad” Kim Williams of Great Falls. Poppa (as they called him) had 3 grandchildren, Shayla of Oregon, Taylor of Great Falls, and Zander of Great Falls. Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine “Lori”; daughter, Kim; three grandchildren; sisters, Linda (George) Knutson and Rita (Keith) Murray; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials in Don’s name may be made to Big Sky R.C. Models (132 15th Ave NW Great Falls, MT 59404). A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
