Don "Smugs" "Smitty" Smith

Don Smugs Smitty Smith, 61, of Butte, a warehouseman for Safeway, owner and operator of Don Smith Construction, and U.S. Navy Veteran, died on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at a Great Falls hospital.No services are planned and cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home in Great Falls.Don was born on June 29, 1950, in Palmer, Pennsylvania to George and Mary Smith. He was raised and educated in Butte and graduated from Butte High School in 1969.Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and returned to Butte after being honorably discharged. He worked for Safeway warehouse until it closed, then formed his own construction company, Don Smith Construction. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Survivors include his brother, George (Claudine) Smith; sisters Sis Hixenbaugh, Pat Hixenbaugh, Aretta (Martin) Seymour and Jeanie (Lloyd) Vires; and his best friend and former wife, Vonnie Brown, all of Butte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Floyd Hixenbaugh.Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Rockies, 3100 Harrison Ave, Butte, Mt 59701 or charity of the donors choice.
