DiAnne Deborah Emmons died on November 10, 2021, at age 87. Born in Billings on June 8, 1934, she was the only daughter of Thelma and Mark Stephens, who owned a grocery store, and the little sister of Wally Stephens. DiAnne graduated from Billings Senior and the University of Montana, where she was known for her big voice, boisterous laugh, and beauty. As the only U of M cheerleader who didn’t require a megaphone, she caught the ear and eye of her future husband of 64 years, Bob Emmons, who called her “Queenie.” Together they built a tight-knit life in Great Falls, centered around their beloved 1909 house, where they raised five kids: Jonathan, Parker, Quincy, Jasen and Nathan. Family dinners featured colorful place settings and spirited discussions, which scared off the faint-hearted, and often concluded with theatrical performances in dress-up clothes. DiAnne loved books, friends, stylish clothes, foreign travel, and delivering zingers. She was devoted to Bob, her children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Throughout her life, she generously shared her considerable energy, time and talents to help organizations like Paris Gibson Square, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, PEO, Junior League, and Adopt-a-Family. She was always a huge presence in our lives, and her family and friends will deeply miss her. DiAnne requested that no service be held. The family will celebrate her remarkable life at a future gathering.
