Diane Nelson, 73, of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at a Great Falls care facility.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Senior Center in Augusta, Montana.Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Diane was born in Iola, Wisconsin, and upon graduating from nursing school in Milwaukee, Diane headed west to Montana with her new husband, Dwayne Nelson. She left her family and friends behind, but brought her Wisconsin-German faith, work ethic and discipline to the west.As a registered nurse, she worked in the old Deaconess Hospital system and later retired from the Veterans Administration hospital system in 1991.Diane is survived by her husband, Dwayne; sons Derek and Drew (Jennifer); daughter Denise; granddaughters Jessica, Jocelyn, Anastasia and Elle; grandson Lukas; brothers Stanley (Karen) and Darwin (Lois); sisters Arlene (Jerry) and Dawn; and her lifelong best friend and cousin, Darla (Jim).She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mabel Riska.In lieu of flowers, donations in her name would be greatly appreciated to the Augusta Volunteer Ambulance, Augusta, MT 59410.
