Derna Batello

Derna S. Batello, 81, of Black Eagle, a homemaker, died on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at a local care facility of natural causes.A rosary will be held at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Her funeral liturgy will be held at Blessed Sacrament Chapel on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Derna was born in Cliffside Park, New Jersey in 1930 to Leone and Margarita Malisani.Her family had to return to Italy because of no work during the depression.She met and married Pete Batello in 1950, and they lived and worked on his familys farm for several years before returning to the United States where Pete went to work at Malisani Inc.Derna was a stay at home mom who enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and family functions. She loved and cherished the times she spent with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed being part of their lives and activities. She was always happy volunteering for church and community functions.Derna never forgot her extended family in Italy and made several trips over the years to visit family and friends.She will be dearly missed by them.Derna is survived by her children, Renato (Becky) Batello of Black Eagle and Elsie Batello of Great Falls; two brothers in Italy; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Pete; and son Jimmy.Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.schniderfuneralhome.com.
