Daniel W Barnhouse was born to Arlyne Bell Gregg “Grame” and Wayne Melville Barnhouse “Grampe” on February 23, 1943, in Great Falls, MT. He joined his sister Caryn and brother Donald “Buzz”. Dad grew up in Great Falls in an apartment on 9th Street and 3rd Avenue South. Dad’s first job was delivering the local newspaper known as the “Leader”. When he earned enough, he bought a 1963 Ford Fairlane sedan with a CB radio and a long antenna. He always regretted selling it. In high school, he belonged to the Nobleman Car Club. Being part of the “American Graffiti” generation, cars always captured his interest. After high school, he worked for the same company for 50 years delivering magazines and books. It started out as Hilgard News Agency then CD Distributing and finally Benjamin News Group. Dad also worked for Howard’s pizza, delivering for 20 years. Dad was a giant teddy bear; he had a self-assured and confident air about him, along with a positive nature. This attracted everyone to him, they all knew and loved Dan. Dad married Diane (Pyle) Rowe, and they had Wendy in 1971. Later divorcing, he then married Betty Knuth. Dad delivered magazines to the little store on Upper River Road that Betty owned. This is where their adventures began. They moved together into her very little house on Blanchard Road. They soon started many renovations to make it their own, and the house it is today. Betty passed away in 2010 and Dad was tired of the changes, so not much has changed in the last 12 years. Throughout their years together, they enjoyed traveling and attending most, if not all, family events. It started out with Wendy, Chris, and Heather, but quickly included most of the grandkids, all to test the patience of Dad. Not only did he succeed, he excelled. He is loved & adored by his family. It also brought him to places he never dreamt of. Since Betty’s passing, he didn't stop traveling, Wendy, Caitlin, and Ethan went with him on many more travels. Dad was the chauffeur throughout the years and loved it. One of Dad's most memorable trips was to Scotland to visit his granddaughter, Nicole, and her family along with stepdaughter Darlene, grandkids Matt and Jen, and his brother Buzz. He was a member of the Skunk Wagon Car Club. He felt he shouldn’t join because the 1963 Pontiac Catalina wasn’t “old enough” but it was in his blood to be part of a car club. While there he renewed a friendship with a fellow member, SueAnn from high school, that blossomed into much more. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Renee White; son-in-law, Chris; his grandchildren, Caitlin Danielle B., and Ethan Wayne B.; his blended family, Darlene Kempf, Harland (Bobbie) Rouns, Aleta (Val) Dalton, Carson (Diane) Rouns, Bart (Eileen) Rouns, and Melanie (Jim) Roscinski; as well as 19 grandchildren, 57 (soon to be 58) great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and Dan’s significant other of 10 years, SueAnn Strickland and family. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Arlyne and Wayne; siblings, Buzz and Caryn; wife, Betty; and stepdaughter, Darlene.
