Cody Smith, 74, made his journey to Heaven Christmas evening with family by his side. Cody was born on September 29, 1943 in Rapid City, SD to Harold and Rosella Smith. Cody was a ranch hand for many years, a true cowboy at heart. He rode and trained horses and worked with cattle. He loved to cook, made the best bread, fried potatoes and bean soup in the WEST! He worked oil fields for years. Cody loved to travel by train. He was a free-spirit. He helped his sister, Phyllis to care for her property, as he also was a carpenter/handyman. Cody loved his family, fishing and holidays. He came to holiday dinners yearly, was the first to leave the table to help with dish duty, and in his later years he had to settle and get a home to live in. Nephew Byron Mizenko, nieces Cindy Mizenko and Debbie often helped with moves and house-care needs, etc. Cody spoke of family often and he enjoyed fishing with younger brother, Spike. Cody had a spiritual healing when he went to a Christian Apantau with niece Debbie and found Jesus and forgiveness. The night he passed, his small white Holy Bible was place upon him. Ride horses in Heaven, Uncle Cody. Tell the family hello from all of us. Cody is survived by brothers “Buck” John William Smith and “Spike” Marvin Jess Smith; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held in the spring 2018 at Highland Cemetery, date and time will be announced. Cody will be placed with his mother, Rosella, whom he loved and adored. We thank Hospice for caring for so many of God’s angels.
