Clinton Howard Tempel, 77, of Great Falls died peacefully in his sleep on February 24, 2015.A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Schnider Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran, 3125 5th Ave. S., Great Falls. A luncheon will immediately follow the service, and a graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Highland Cemetery.Clint was born on May 4, 1937, in Havre, Montana to Gus and Louise Tempel. He was the youngest of six children and was the first of his family to be born in a hospital. He was raised on the family homestead north of Joplin and moved to Great Falls as a teenager. Clint returned to Joplin graduating from Joplin High School in 1955. He served in the Army and Army Reserve while continuing work on the family farm. Clint took a job as a smelter man in 1963 with the Anaconda Company where he worked until its closure in 1980. Clint then worked at the Deaconess Hospital until retirement in 1998.Clint married Gaynell Gullickson on May 10, 1969, and together raised two children, Scot Tempel and Stacy Tempel-St. John. Clint never truly left the farm, enjoying gardening and raising beautiful roses. Clint became a diehard Red Sox fan as a young boy while listening to his hero, Ted Williams, on the radio out on the farm. This passion for the Red Sox soon spread to a love of the Celtics and Patriots and culminated with the entire family traveling to Fort Meyers, FL to watch the Red Sox play the Yankees during spring training in 2012.Clint is survived by his wife, Gaynell; children Scot (Yvonne) Tempel of Butte and Stacy (Eric) Tempel-St. John of Great Falls; grandchildren Tyler Tempel, Haley Tempel, Tyson St. John, Tanner St. John and Trey St. John; sisters-in-law Marilyn Tempel, Lillian Tempel, and Doris Gullickson; brother-in-law Marvin Overton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernest Tempel and Kenneth Tempel; and sisters Margaret Anderson, Dorothy Heydon, and Ellen Overton.Memorials to New Hope Lutheran Ministries or the donors choice are suggested.
