Clay L. Loney, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on Monday, March 4 at the age of 72. He was born on October 21, 1946 in Great Falls to Madeline and Laurie Stephen Loney. He spent his early childhood in Great Falls and later moved to a ranch in the Highwood Mountains. He loved growing up on the ranch where he learned the value of hard work, taking responsibility, and pride in a job well done. Clay married Margaret Davison in 1965. They had four children, Colt (Donna), Lynnette (Ben), Willow (Francisco), and Cody (Linda). They divorced in 1974. He and Cherry Travis were married in 1980. Clay and Cherry had three children, Travis (Scharli), Tyler (Kristen), and Amber. Clay owned and operated a construction business and over the years, he and his crew completed excavation and all types of concrete work in both commercial and residential settings, later expanding to home building. He had a lifelong passion for horses, loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid NFL fan never missing a game of his beloved San Francisco 49ers. He was known for his kind and compassionate spirit, his ability to fix just about anything, and his love for family. Clay was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary; and brothers Bill and Ross. He is survived by his wife, Cherry; his children; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon; and brother, Cleve. A celebration of Clay’s life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, March 30 at Victory Christian Church in Great Falls. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
