Charles "Chuck" Ray Dewell

August 13, 1945 — October 27, 2020

On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Charles “Chuck” Ray Dewell of Great Falls passed away at the age of 75. Affectionately known as “Dad, Charlie, Poppa Bear,” or “Yogi,” to those closest to him, Chuck (as most others called him) graced the world with his presence on August 13, 1945, in Billings. After attending Laurel High School, he skipped town to proudly serve in the US Army for two decades. Following military retirement, Chuck became a jack of all trades and master of none. He truly was a man who loved living life to the fullest. Chuck loved exploring the West Coast, being outdoors, and fishing anywhere and anytime he possibly could. His heart was in Montana, though, so he could routinely be found at The Peak, Giant Springs, Holter Lake, or Glacier National Park. He gave his time by volunteering at the local food bank and offered his knowledge by volunteering as a docent at The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. Everyone he encountered learned he had tall tales and a short fuse. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Crystal; former spouse, Dee; four daughters, Sheryl Metzger, Dawn (Ken) Cantrell, Angela (Jerry) Pedersen, and Rebecca Howard. He was the proud grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of seven as well. Per Chuck’s request, no memorial or funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made through Montana FWP to “Great Falls Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs” by contacting the interim treasurer at sheryl.dewell@gmail.com.
