Carolyn Elaine Fulton

July 14, 1946 — August 14, 2021

Carolyn Elaine Fulton, 75 of Ulm, passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage at Benefis hospital on August 14, 2021. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Ulm Bible Church. Carolyn was born to William and Peggy Hawley in Butte, MT on July 14, 1946. She attended elementary and junior high in Great Falls, MT and graduated from Simms High School in 1965. Following graduation, she followed her sister, Barbara down to San Francisco where she met the love of her life, David Fulton, in 1966. They were married in Great Falls at Saint Gerard's Catholic Church on April 6, 1968. For the next 14 years, they moved coast to coast while David served in the US Navy. They had three children during that time and moved back to Great Falls upon Dave's retirement in 1982. She continued as a homemaker until all of the kids were in school. At that time, she started teaching preschool at Hill Top Child Care and found her true calling. Carolyn loved her time spent nurturing and teaching the young kids that came through her classroom. In 1998, she and her family relocated to Big Sandy, MT where she loved the small town community. She worked with residents at the Big Sandy nursing home as the Activities Director, and teaching at Little Flock Preschool. Upon David's civilian retirement in 2010, they moved back to Great Falls (Ulm) to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Carolyn loved going to her grandchildren’s Christmas programs, sporting events, and just watching them all grow up. She and David especially enjoyed spending time together traveling across the state and checking out the various campgrounds. They loved finding new adventures to share together, including her latest passion, kayaking. For a woman who did not like water, she loved spending time in the kayak with one of their dogs perched upfront. Carolyn was never one to just sit. If she wasn't volunteering to teach a bible study or vacation bible school for the church, she could be found spending time with residents of The Hosanna House or organizing clothes for the Angel Room. She also enjoyed spending time outside with all of her animals, tending to her flowers, or going to the gym and the local shooting range. She was preceded in her death by her parents, William and Peggy Hawley; mother-in-law, Dora DeVilling; sister-in-law, Elaine Cordera; and son-in-law, Kevin Heppner. Carolyn is survived by her husband, David Fulton; daughters, Angie Heppner of Whitefish and Amber (Mel) Carver of Great Falls; son, Aaron Fulton of Great Falls; sisters, Barbara (John) Toenyes of Great Falls and Rebecca Myers of Stevensville; five grandsons, Kyle (Jessica) Heppner, Kole Heppner, Anthony Price, Dylan Carver, and Blake Carver; and two great-granddaughters, Ava and Cora Rae Heppner. Carolyn will always be remembered as a sweet, sarcastic soul with a contagious smile that could light up the room. Although she left us too soon, we will all cherish the time that we had with her knowing how many lives she touched along the way. Donations may be made in her name to the Ulm Bible Church or to the Great Falls Animal Shelter.
