Carl Alexander Oakland, 94, of Great Falls, died of natural causes on Tuesday, April 2, 2013at his winter home in Sahuarita, Arizona.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. onSaturday, May 4, 2013 at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel.Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Carl was born in Fairview, Montana on January 9, 1919, and grew up on his familys farm in Cartwright, North Dakota. He graduated from Fairview High School and then attended business college. Carl enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served 5 years in the South Pacific and Phillipines.He was involved in building in Billings where he met and married Marlene C. Arnston in 1952, later moving to Kalispell, and then Great Falls.Carl loved to boat, fish and golf. He enjoyed spending time with family and cruising oceans and rivers to visit over 40 countries.He continued building residential and commercial buildings and developing real estate until retiring in 2007.Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene Oakland of Great Falls; son Carl Keith (Barbara) Oakland of Libby; daughters Julie (Jerry) Bass of Great Falls and Mary Elaine (Phillip) Young of Manitou Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren, Benjamin Oakland, Jonathan(Jolene) Bass and Tiffany Bass; and three great-grandchildren.Memorials to Carl may be made to the Great Falls Rescue Mission, 326 2nd Ave. N. Great Falls.
