Beverly Jane Cromwell

Beverly Jane Cromwell was a force to be reckoned with. Beverly Jane “Janie” Lockwood was born on April 15, 1931 in Billings, Montana to Clark Augustus and Cathron “Katie” Mary (Reardon) Lockwood. She passed from this life on June 9, 2023. She was the 1949 Laurel High School Valedictorian, received her Nursing diploma from Carroll College, and graduated cum laude from Montana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1965. Janie met her future husband, Clyde Andrew “C.A.” in elementary school and they had three daughters.

She believed in education for women. Janie was awarded the second level of professional achievement of the American College of Healthcare Executives, appointed President of the Montana Board of Nursing for eight years, served on the board of the Wyoming Nurse Executives, and was elected Treasurer of the Wyoming Commission for Nursing and Nursing Education. She was named Director of Nursing Services at St. Johns Hospital in Helena, Montana and then St. James in Butte, Montana. Janie was promoted to Vice President of Patient Services followed by Vice President of Professional Services at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She retired from DePaul in 1995, spending her time in Tucson, Seattle, and Great Falls.

She loved her family. Janie grew up in a close knit family which included many aunts, uncles and cousins and she became the storyteller of her generation. She was surrounded by her three daughters, Prudence (Glenn) Cromwell, Julie (Steve) Lewallen and Nora (Craig) Mazzolini at her peaceful passing. Janie is also survived by her grandchildren, Cate (Tristan) and Jess (Daniel) Johnson, and AJ (Darah) and Daniel Mazzolini; sister-in-law, Kathy and her children Casey (Erik) Weitkamp and Timothy (Carrie) Lockwood, Jr. Janie was predeceased by her parents and brother, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Timothy James Lockwood. She will be greatly missed.

There will be a funeral Mass at Smith Funeral Home (315 E. 3rd Street in Laurel, Montana) on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by graveside services and a reception. Condolence messages for the family can be left on the Great Falls Schnider or Laurel Smith Funeral Home websites.
