Betty Jane (Howe) Knight died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana, on Wednesday April 22, 2020. She died of natural causes from complications with her heart and kidney failure. She would have been 90 years old in four days. Betty was born on April 26, 1930, in McGrath, Alberta, Canada, to James Howe and Anna (Buhler) Howe. The family moved back to north central Montana, where she grew up and eventually graduated from Power High School in 1948. She married Robert Knight on September 19, 1948. They raised their four children primarily on the Fairfield Bench, but in their later years they lived and made many friends in Big Timber, Roundup, and Billings. Although she worked outside the home the majority of her adult life, she found great joy in being “Mom” to more than her own children, especially in church activities. She had children's choirs and a "Kids for Jesus" Saturday club. Betty grew up singing in church and continued her singing into her later years. She wrote poetry and country gospel music. She recorded her first CD in her late 70s. What a privilege to have that heritage recorded in her own voice. She loved her family and she loved her Lord Jesus. Betty and Bob spent as much time as possible in the mountains with her family. An appreciation of God and closeness to Him and His creation was developed in those years and continues still today through her children. She gave us such a beautiful memory and tradition. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Jim Howe; older sister, Dorothy DeLacey; and Robert, her husband of nearly 69 years. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Janice (Bob) Loss of Fairfield, Barb (Bruce) Buss of Billings, Jerry (Cathi) Knight of Casper, Wyoming, and Arnie (Linda) Knight of Billings; eleven grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and will be forever in our hearts. Cremation has taken place with her memorial and graveside services to be held at a later date in Fairfield, MT. Memorials can be made to Peace Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
