Alberta (Hofland) Knapstad

June 21, 1942 — April 17, 2020

Alberta (Hofland) Knapstad, born June 21, 1942, in Conrad, MT, passed away a year ago on April 17, 2020, at the age of 77. Alberta grew up in Great Falls where she worked for the school district and the Salvation Army Social Services until she retired. Alberta married Melvin Knapstad in 1962, and together they raised three children. Alberta was a fun-loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always willing to help others in need even if it left her short. Alberta enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as long as washing dishes was not involved. She always found a way to get out of doing dishes. After retiring, she cared for her son-in-law and spent time at the nursing facility with her husband visiting and playing bingo. Alberta met few people that did not love being around her. She was a positive influence for many in both her personal and professional life. Due to the pandemic, it was not possible for us to celebrate Alberta’s life. We love and miss her as much today as we did a year ago. The tears and sorrow are still there, but they are now being replaced by the happy memories that we have of her. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Albert and Thelma Hofland; and several siblings. Alberta is survived by her three children, Christine Williams of Great Falls, Douglas Knapstad of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Julie (Doug) Anderson of Wasilla, AK; grandchildren, Justin Secrist of Cascade, MT and Amber Anderson of Fairbanks, AK; sisters, Fae Laud, Edith Jacobson, and Lucille Knapstad; brother, Eric (Barbara) Hofland; and a very large extended family.
