Harvey Marquis

Jun 11, 1946 - Apr 24, 2017

Harvey Ronald Marquis went home to be with his Savior Monday morning, April 24, 2017, from natural causes at the Great Falls Clinic Hospital.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Friday, April 28, 2017 also at Schnider Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held Friday, April 28th, at 3:00 p.m., at New City Church, 4108 N. Park Trail in Great Falls with visitation one hour prior at 2:00 p.m. at the church. A potluck style reception will follow after the burial at the Ulm Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Harvey was born June 11, 1946, in Thief River Falls, MN, to William and Elna Marquis. The family moved to Great Falls, where Harvey began his work career at the Great Falls Smelter. From there, he got a job working as a scaler for the Montana Department of Transportation, and then moved into a Crane Operator position for the Cascade county Road and Bridge Department. Finally, Harvey finished his career for Cascade County as a Blade Operator again for the road department. After his career with the county, Harvey started Marquis Excavating with his sons and put his lifetime of experience as an operator to use providing for his still growing family. Finally, Harvey retired in 2001 after 35 years of service and took a job with United Materials to fill up his spare time, where he worked for eight more years.

He married the love of his life, Loretta (Sallee), on August 9, 1969, and they were blessed with nine children together. His love for children was evident every time they were around, whether they were his own children or someone else’s; he was always giving kids rides on his lawn mower, gator, or just the pickup truck around Ulm. Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars, and tinkering on motors in his shop. More than anything else in life, Harvey had a love for the people around him and for his Savior Jesus Christ. The thing that was most noticeable in his life was his passion for sharing Christ with others, whether it was handing out tracts, devotionals, and bibles to the people he met, or sharing his faith at the rescue mission, Harvey had a genuine desire for everyone to come to know Christ as he did. He left a legacy in the lives of many people outside of his immediate family, and the love he shared is greatly evident in his children and grandchildren.

Harvey is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Loretta (Sallee); sons Cory (Beckie) and Calob (Megan); daughters Lorie, Kristin (Bryan), Carrie (Cody), Katie (Brandon), and Caressa (Bruce); grandchildren Sadie (Cole), Tyrel, Treyton, Sheyla, Dawson, Dayton, Kyelie, Kaiden, Connor, Christian, Ciara, Teagan, Trevon, Treysen, Bailey, Braxton, Braden; and great-granddaughter Kinslee.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; mother Elna; brother Bill; sisters Joyce and Bonnie; and children Kevin, Casey, and Kaylee.

Harvey’s favorite quote was, “Be ready Jesus is coming soon.”

In lieu of flowers, donations in Harvey’s name can be made to the Great Falls Rescue Mission, 326 2nd Ave S., Great Falls, MT 59405.
